Who Can Play:
The Cairo Softball league's limited to 8th graders and older. However, they along with high school age young adults need parental and league permission. There are teams of various skill levels, but all teams will accept players with little or even no experience. Each team’s players and coaches will help develop a player’s skills, knowledge of the game and understanding of the rules. However, for less skilled players or for those who haven't played in several years it is best to start with a team that has a need for players and/or is more geared toward helping players develop.

How to find a team:
It is best if you can find a team during the practice seasons which start in mid-January for the spring season and mid-August for the fall season. One of the best ways to find a team is to check the website to find practice or game schedules, then come to the ball park and talk to the team coaches. They can usually help you find a team that would be a good fit and provide a chance to watch the teams in action. You can also go to the team pages for team contact information.

Another option is to contact the women’s or men’s league commissioners. They should also be able to help you find a team in need of players.  You can find their contact information using the Board and Staff link from the home page.

What you will need:
Clothing for both cool and hot weather play. Many teams provide T-shirts/Jerseys and hats. Players often wear shorts but some players prefer baseball pants for sliding. A softball glove (some teams have spare gloves to get you started). Shoes designed for running bases (preferably hard plastic/rubber cleats, no steel cleats). Teams supply bats but often players will bring personal bats and most will share.

Summary:
We hope this information has been helpful and that you come out and join a team.  The competition is always friendly and we are sure you will meet some great people and maybe even develop some lifelong friendships.  We look forward to seeing you at the ballpark!
